A man accused of fleecing people of rent money on property he didn't own pleaded guilty to several charges in Norfolk Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Under the terms of his plea agreement, Shane R. Goettle, 35, must serve one year and one month for obtaining money by false pretenses. He must also pay a total of $6,000 restitution to five people who gave him deposits for houses on Montclair Avenue and Ashlawn Drive.

Goettle advertised the properties for rent on Craigslist.com between January and June, but he did not own the property nor did he have permission from the owners to rent the homes.
